Why Crypto?
Cryptocurrencies (Crypto) are a form of digital currency which are used by some Startup Tech businesses as a way to raise funds and grow rapidly. Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) are examples.
Crypto provides a way to invest small in high risk early stage companies and if they are successful, to benefit big.
In this way the Crypto market has become a new type of Stockmarket for tech businesses. While each Cryptocurrency token doesn't provide a share of company ownership (as a Tesla share would), tokens are needed to use each company's service and therefore increase in value as each business grows - just like shares.
My Story
As a Kiwi from migrant grandparents, I don't come from a financially-savvy family and I certainly didn't learn about investing at school. What I did notice growing up was that some people seemed to just know how to invest and grow their wealth - and I didn't.
Fast forward and after 20 years working in Tech, I've seen founders and shareholders make fortunes (and a few go bust) - but I couldn't participate until I had 50k to put into a small business investment fund. I was frustrated. I saved into my Pension and bought a flat, while the wealthy invested in high risk, high return early stage companies.
The first attempt
I learned about Cryptocurrencies and saw them asa way for startup tech companies to raise funds, and a way for ordinary people to invest in early stage companies.
I spent hours and days learning about the hundreds of businesses and how to buy their coins. I invested in Bitcoin and Ethereum because they are the biggest. I 2016 I sold my holdings at a loss to buy a flat, missing out on the first big bull market by several months. It hurt and I gave up for a while. I watched others do really well but didn't believe I could be one of them.
The second attempt
In 2021 I saved up and after months spent researching, I invested in 10 of the largest Crypto projects. In 2023 the global economy crashed, values dropped and being in the midst of buying a house as interest rates rose, I had to once again sell for a loss, just before the market again began to rise. I was tired and embarrassed. It had happened again!
I needed a better way. I wanted a Crypto Investment Advisor but such a thing didn't yet exist. So I looked for people I could copy. Someone who had been successful over a long period of time and whose strategy I could understand.
Enter Copy My Crypto
While watching Cryptocurrency analysis videos on YouTube, I found Copy My Crypto, run by former Maths Teacher James McMahon. Although his website read like an infomercial, I could see many of his subscribers had done very well over previous years.

Straight away it was obvious he'd done his research on the projects he'd invested in, and that his portfolio was growing strongly. I liked his straight-talking approach and regular videos explaining the market.
